The Reis Magos panchayat has purchased three mobile mortuary units for the Hindu, Christian and Muslim communities and one such mobile morgue unit was handed over to the Reis Magos Church.

Reis Magos Sarpanch Kedar Naik handed over the mobile morgue unit to the Reis Magos Parish Priest Fr Orland Marques in the presence of panch members Virendra Shirodkar, Subhash Pednekar, Sushma Pednekar, Siya Nagvekar, attorney of the Church Fabrica Mario Pacheco and a group of locals.

Speaking on the occasion, Sarpanch Kedar Naik said the panchayat has purchased three mobile mortuary units for the Hindu, Catholic and Muslim communities.

Some residents of Reis Magos, especially the Catholic and Muslim communities, are working abroad to earn their livelihood. If their relative residing in Reis Magos expires, it takes 2-3 days for them to reach Goa.”

“The body then has to be preserved in the morgue of Goa Medical College Hospital at Bambolim and family members face hardships if there is no space at the GMC mortuary to preserve the body.”

“It is for this reason the panchayat decided to purchase three mobile morgues at a cost of Rs 5 lakh from the panchayat fund for the three communities,” Naik.

Parish Priest Fr Orland Marques thanked the Reis Magos Panchayat for donating the mobile morgue to church and said the panchayat deserves appreciation for their generosity.

“This mobile morgue will be definitely be of use to the local community,” said Fr Marques.
