Margao recorded its second incident of a parapet of a building crashing down on Wednesday, this time of an apartment of a private building near Ana Fonte Garden.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident that occurred at around 9 am on Wednesday. Parts of the concrete fell on the roof of an adjoining house but did not cause injuries to anyone.
A resident of the area Avita Naik said the slab of the parapet came crashing down with a loud sound, only to realise later that the slab of the Verandah of the top apartment of a building has collapsed.
Avita and other residents pointed out that the top apartment has been lying closed for a long time now, adding that parts of the concrete had been falling in recent times.
“Only God saved a tragedy since people take the route where the slab had come down. Parts of the slab landed on my house, but we were saved because the roof is covered with tin sheets,” he added.
Another resident Samson said the slab must have collapsed after getting soaked in the heavy rains. He said no one is staying in the apartment and the same has been lying closed for a long time.
