MARGAO
The South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) has set in motion the process to prepare a new Outline Development Plan (ODP) for Margao and Ponda municipal areas from Friday.
A notification has been published in the government gazette inviting suggestions and objections to the draft Outline Development Plan for a period of two months.
The notification stated that the draft ODP has been kept open for inspection to the public in general on all working days in the office of the South Goa Planning and Development Authority at Margao.
SGPDA member Secretary Ranjit Borkar informed that members of the public can inspect the draft OPD in the office of the SGPDA at Margao and give their suggestions and objections, if any.
He said the draft ODP will be kept open for inspection by the public for a period of two months from Friday.
Though the SGPDA had made minor suggestions, including changes in the roads, officials in the know said members of the public are free to make changes, including changes to the zones, before the suggestions and objections are all scrutinized by the PDA.
“The SGPDA has not proposed any zone changes in the draft OPD. The PDA has only suggested minor changes, including changes to the road width, etc”, Borkar added.
Incidentally, the present ODP was supposed to have taken care of the planning requirements of Margao and Ponda till 2028, but has been opened up again as per the decision of the SGPDA headed by MLA Wilfred D’Sa. Though the MLAs of Margao and Fatorda, Digambar Kamat and Vijai Sardesai respectively had expressed their reservations over the opening of the OPD 2028 which was notified only two years ago in 2019, the government had overruled the objections and had given the go-ahead to the SGPDA to open the OPD for making changes and to invite objections and suggestions from the public.
