The United Goans Foundation on Friday petitioned Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Ramesh Tawadkar, demanding the dissolution of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and the Committee of Public Undertakings (PUC), and an audit of the works undertaken by all House Committees appointed by the office, with respect to the responsibilities accorded to each.
In the petition alleging non-performance, the UGF delegation also sought action for any inefficiency.
The foundation alleged that the PAC and PUC committees have been overlooking their obligations and duties towards the citizens and the State. “Rather, (the committees) have been namesake committees for the past two years,” it said, alleging that this neglect has undermined the legal sanctity of the committees they preside over.
It also alleged that the PAC did not meet once in 19 months, and the PUC in 15 months. “Take relevant action against the Chairman of both the PAC and PUC for convening a meeting of Government Officials allegedly without the legal authority, due to the cessation of the tenure of appointment, and also for acting in contravention of the conduct rules of such committees. Update performance reports of all such committees on the Assembly website,” reads the six-page memorandum.
