MARGAO
With no business coming in after Hospicio was shifted to the South Goa district hospital building a fortnight ago, GAPL Medicentre has again knocked on the doors of the Hospicio authorities to accommodate the pharmacy at the district hospital.
In fact, GAPL Chief Executive Officer Reju Skaria has requested Hospicio Medical Superintendent, Dr Deepa Correia to allot suitable space to GAPL Medicentre, around 600 square feet approximately, to provide 24x7 services to patients at the Hospicio hospital new premises.
Sources said GAPL Medicentre has been left high and dry since Hospicio services were shifted to the South Goa district hospital building a fortnight ago. With all the Hospicio departments and the patients shifted to the new district hospital, sources said GAPL has been struggling to do any business.
Take note, GAPL Medicentre is located near the Holy Spirit cemetery overlooking the road leading to Pajifond, but sources pointed out that the pharmacy has been mostly dependent on the patients admitted to Hospicio for its survival. “We have been literally struggling to do business since the last 15 days,” remarked an employee.
GAPL had knocked on the doors of the Health Minister as well as health officials since last year when moves were afoot to shift Hospicio services to the new South Goa district hospital, but in vain.
Though GAPL Medicentre has been requesting the health department to allot around 600 sq feet of space at the new district hospital building, no provision has been made to date.
In fact, a government-run pharmacy has been set up at the district hospital, but there’s no news on the fate of the GAPL Medicentre taking shape in the new building.
“GAPL Medicentre is delivering uninterrupted 24x7 services at Hospicio hospital, Margao, since 1995. With the support of the Goa government, we have completed 25 years of uninterrupted 24x7 services at Hospicio hospital and at the government medical college, Bambolim”, GAPL CEO pointed out to the Hospicio Medical Superintendent.
