The service offered to residents evoked good response and 102 residents paid their house tax to the panchayat, generating a revenue of Rs 1.6 lakh.
A team comprising Panchayat clerk Hari Khandeparkar and staffer, Vishal Chodankar, collected the taxes under the supervision of Panchayat Secretary Dinesh Chodankar at the Jnyan Vikas School at Nova Cidade Enclave from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm.
Those present during
the tax collection drive included Pilerne Sarpanch Amarnath Govenkar and local Panchas Karan Govenkar and Sangeeta Narvekar.
The facility, which was initiated by Karan Governkar, was primarily to help residents of Nova Cidade Enclave and PDA colony. It was also extended to all residents of that part of Porvorim under the jurisdiction of Pilerne village.
“We initiated the tax collection drive at Nova Cidade Enclave as people from my ward in Porvorim found it difficult and inconvenient to pay their house tax in the panchayat office, which is located near the Pilerne Industrial Estate and quite far from the plateau,” said Karan Govenkar.
“Many residents from my ward requested me to start a house tax collection drive in their area. Responding to their demand, I requested the panchayat to offer them the service by sending a team to the Jnyan Vikas School, a convenient spot for residents
of Nova Cidade Enclave and PDA colony.”
“We are very pleased with the response from 102 residents and we thank them for paying their house taxes, which amounted to Rs 1.6 lakh. Following this successful tax collection drive, I have now suggested to the panchayat that a similar drive may be conducted every
six months in each ward to facilitate residents in the payment of their house taxes,”
he added.
