MARGAO
The Margao Civil and Criminal Court building was back in the news again on Tuesday after a turn table ladder was requisitioned from the Fire services to re-set the plastic sheet covering the roof of the heritage building.
The turn table ladder, however, did not come of any help and the plastic sheet hanging on the building after it was blown away by strong winds, was finally removed by a labourer of the Fire department.
What prevented the turn table ladder from fixing the issue was that it had to be stationed on the main road blocking the traffic. Given that heavy traffic moving out of Margao city plies on the road, the police could not manage the movement without blocking vehicles.
As a last resort, a labourer of the Fire department finally pulled down the plastic sheet hanging at the entrance, giving a bad look to the heritage building.
A Fire department official pointed out that they could not use the turn table ladder as it had to be parked on the main road. “The entire operation required the closure of the main road since the hydraulic had to be parked on the road. Since the traffic police could not stop the traffic flow, the operation to re-fix the plastic sheets on the court building could not take place,” a fireman said.
The Margao Civil and Criminal Court building had been in the news after the roof of the building was covered with plastic sheets to prevent rainwater seepage. However, the seepage was rampant during the monsoons, forcing the lawyers to stand outside the building for a day to highlight the plight of the heritage building.
Presently, courts functioning from the building have been shifted to the district and sessions court complex to avoid inconvenience to the Judicial officers, lawyers as well as litigants.
