Canacona MLA and Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar received special praise for his organisational skills from speakers on the second day of the three-day Lokotsav-24 event held at AdarshGram, Amone, Poinguinim.

Subhash Phal Dessai, the Minister for Social Welfare and the chief guest on the second day, praised Tawadkar’s working style, comparing him to the legendary Bhagwan Birsa Munda. Phaldessai highlighted Tawadkar’s iconic approach, citing his ‘Shram-Dham’ initiative, which provides homes for the houseless, a concept that has become popular not only in Canacona and Goa but across the country. “Whatever he sets his mind to, he does with great devotion and enthusiasm,” said Phaldessai.

Lokotsav-24 is organised at AdarshGram, Amone, in association with Adarsh Yuva Sangh, Balram Shikshan Sanstha and the Directorate of Tribal Welfare, with participation from tribal communities across the state and beyond.

The dignitaries lit the traditional lamp and inaugurated the second day’s public programme of Lokotsav-24, during the first session of the three-day event. Teachers and students from the higher secondary school of Ardhafond, part of the Balaram Educational Society, presented the welcome song. Kavita Naik Gaonkar, in charge of the higher secondary school, welcomed the dignitaries and presented them with bouquets.

In his speech, Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar reflected on the state of education in the remote areas of the taluka until 1994. He said the Balaram Education Society (BES), founded in 2008 with Tawadkar as chairman, has achieved significant success. Today, BES serves 450 resident students, operates seven institutions, and educates over 1,000 students across various pre-primary, primary, high schools, and higher secondary schools.

Tawadkar also mentioned that coaching for competitive exams is now being offered, and noted that after 70 years, there is a renewed focus on returning to the roots of humanity. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his desire to attend the 25th Lokotsav next year after taking note of this significant work,” Tawadkar said.

Dignitaries from various parts of Goa, who have made outstanding contributions in different fields, were honoured by the guests with shawls, flowers, bouquets, mementos, and certificates.

The dignitaries on the dais were honoured with mementos by Speaker Tawadkar.
