Police claim breakthrough in Kundaim-Ponda theft case

Superintendent of Police, South, Sunita Sawant on Tuesday said that police have achieved a breakthrough in the theft case that took place at Kundaim-Ponda on October 9.

Addressing the media in the presence of police officers from various divisions, SP Sawant said upon the complaint of Chaturbhuj Ghintal, Rajasthan that on October 9, two unknown accused persons occupant of the car (registration number not known) with their common intention stopped him at Kundaim while he was travelling in his scooter.

He was pushed into the bushes on the side of the road by the accused, caught hold of his mouth and further opened the dickey to commit theft of Rs. 1.5 lakh before making good their escape.

“As part of the investigations, we had formed various teams wherein electronic surveillance was mounted and CCTV footages with cameras was used to apprehend accused persons namely Pawan, Rajbharat Yadav, resident of Vasco and Nagaraj Mohan Talwar, resident of Mangor Hill, Vasco da Gama and during interrogation they confessed the involvement in the crime and they both were arrested in the above crime.

During interrogation the chain was established and accused persons also disclosed three associates namely Ashok B. Pandrekar Rio Malbhat, Margao No Kodibag, Karwar, Raju Basavraj Waddar Rio Near Amona Cross Quepem and Raju Regi Rio Near Ram Mandir, Mangor Hill, Mormugao.

All the three associates have also been apprehended and arrested in the crime.

During the course of investigation, stolen property i.e. money were recovered from the accused persons.
