Verify over 5,000 tenants in last three days

Amidst the heightened security threat perception following the recent terror strike in Kashmir where tourists were targeted, Goa police have gone into overdrive, combing the entire State and rounding up hundreds of suspect persons, even as they verified over 5,000 tenants in the last three days.
On Sunday alone, the police verified 4,555 tenants across the jurisdictions of 14 police stations in North Goa, including Panaji, Agacaim, Old Goa, Mapusa, Anjuna, Colvale, Pernem, Mandrem, Valpoi, Bicholim, Porvorim, Calangute, Saligao, and Mopa.
In a press release, police said combing operations were held by every Police Station in North Goa on the intervening nights of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Some of the locales where the combing operations were focused included Kamrabhat in Taleigao, Indiranagar in Chimbel, Merces, St Cruz, Ekta Nagar in Khorlim, Mapusa, Arpora-Nagoa, Auchitwado in Colvale, Vatadev in Bicholim, Hatwada in Valpoi, near Aldeia de Goa at Bambolim, Arambol, Donwado in Salvador de Mundo, Baga, Sinquerim, and Malpem Railway Station, the press release said.
Verification of tenants, servants, and filling of ‘C’ forms in respect of foreigners staying in hotels, guest houses, and homestays was also carried out, the press release said.
Some 50 persons were arrested under preventive action, and 198 ‘Stranger rolls’ were filled, while 240 suspected persons were rounded up for verification, the press release added.
