With the Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC) set to begin the process of direct recruitment of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySP) after 25 long years, 29 police inspectors (PI) are also soon to be promoted.

The Commission has already begun the process to fill up 62 positions of DySPs of which 28 are through direct recruitment and 34 are by promotion. “The proposal for direct recruitment has been sent to the GPSC after a gap of 25 years. The last batch of directly recruited DySPs was way back in 1998 through the GPSC,” Commission Chairman Jose Manuel Noronha said.

The advertisement for direct recruitment was released on Friday wherein of 28 posts, 14 are in unreserved category, eight for OBC, four for ST and two for EWS.

Unlike Junior Scale Officers in the Goa Civil Service, the age limit for DySPs is 30 years in the unreserved category while all candidates have to undergo and pass the physical fitness test as mandated in the Goa Police Rules 2022.

“This recruitment will be through a five stage process which will include pre-screening, screening, physical tests such as running, high jump, long jump, shot put, etc to be completed within set time limits, written exam and an oral interview,” Noronha added.

In a separate development, GPSC convened a Departmental Promotion Committee meeting on Friday, recommending the promotion of 29 PIs to the DySP rank under the promotional quota.

Incidentally, the government after concurrence of the Commission had last month diverted 10 posts of DySP from the direct recruitment quota to the promotion quota. This deficit will be made up in future recruitments.

Once the direct recruitment process is complete the police department will have the full complement of DySPs on a regular basis, perhaps for the first time.

In other DPCs, the Commission recommended 14 officials’ promotion to the position of Assistant Engineers in the Water Resource Department while one official was recommended for the position of Deputy Director of Prosecution in the Department of Prosecution.
