PANAJI: A 52-year-old Ponda local has been arrested for allegedly possession and transmission of child pornographic material following a tip-off from the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Cyber Tipline.
Cyber Crime Cell sleuths identified the accused as Sachin Joglekar. “...the information from Google through Cyber Tipline portal under MHA flagged a file containing explicit material involving minors. The data analysis revealed that the said file was produced on September 17, 2024 using a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 mobile phone, with its GPS location tracked. Based on technical analysis and local surveillance, a suspect was identified for storing and transmitting the illegal material electronically," SP (Cyber Crime Cell) Rahul Gupta said.
An FIR has been registered against Joglekar under relevant provisions of the law. He was tracked down and arrested.
Gupta warned citizens of legal consequences for possessing or sharing such content. “The Supreme Court has made it clear that anyone receiving child pornographic material must report it to authorities. Failure to do so is an offense under the POCSO Act,” he warned.
Gupta also addressed a rise in online investment scams, where fraudsters use social media ads and WhatsApp groups to lure victims with promises of high returns. He urged the public to verify investment firms with SEBI before investing
