PANAJI: Goa's political leaders have expressed their deep sorrow following the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, paying tribute to his profound impact on peace, compassion, and social justice.
Pope Francis passed away today at the age of 88 at his residence in the Vatican’s Casa Santa Marta. His death was confirmed by Cardinal Kevin Farrell, who praised the Pope for his lifelong service to the Church and his dedication to spreading the values of the Gospel.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant shared his condolences, emphasising Pope Francis's unwavering commitment to humanity that transcended borders and faiths. "On behalf of the Government of Goa, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Catholic community in Goa and across the world. May his soul rest in eternal peace," the CM wrote. He also hailed Pope Francis's dedication to uplifting the suffering and promoting compassion.
Union Minister of State Shripad Naik echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the Pope's life dedicated to Christ’s ideals and service to the poor. "A beacon of compassion and humility, he inspired hope among the suffering. His legacy will endure forever," Naik wrote, offering his heartfelt condolences to the global Catholic community.
Minister Rohan Khaunte also expressed grief, mourning the loss of "an Apostle of Peace and Harmony for the entire world."
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao paid tribute to the late pontiff, acknowledging his tireless advocacy for peace and social justice. "His human warmth and humility were a comfort to many, and his legacy will undoubtedly continue to shape the Catholic Church and the world for generations to come. May his soul rest in peace," Alemao wrote.
