The Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) is expected to complete the four-lane flyover port connectivity project by March 2023.

The MPA led by its Chairman Venkata Ramana Akkaraju on Tuesday convened a joint meeting with Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar along with officials of other stakeholders like Gammon India, PWD and Highway authorities to discuss on the completion of the four-lane flyover port connectivity project.

While the four-lane flyover bridge between Verna and Sada has been completed and open to traffic, the connection of this flyover to the Port is pending and yet to be completed.

Later speaking to reporters, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar said the project will be completed by March 2023.

"The meeting was convened to take stock of ongoing works for the bridge connecting the port and the city. The consultant made a presentation on the works completed and further presented the road map for the completion of the project. I sought to know why the project was getting delayed," said Salkar.

"The officials explained that the work had slowed down due to heavy rain and also that the material for the state-of-art cable-stayed Railway Over Bridge (ROB) near Vailankanni chapel had to be procured from abroad and that had caused a slight delay.”

“They said the remaining portion would be completed before March 2023," said Salkar.

Salkar said a ramp was being planned at Vasco to connect the city to the flyover.

"This ramp will be only for exit from Vasco city and there will be no traffic coming in the city from the four-lane flyover. We have only two exits and the roads are already congested and usually blocked it is very important that we also have a third exit from the city straight to the 4-lane highway providing Vascokars with an easy access outward.”

“We will have a service road of around 3.5 meters on either side of the ramp. We have, however, sought a physical inspection to assess the real situation on ground and we will take it up on Tuesday," said Salkar.
