PORVORIM: Dr. Sikhandar Talwar, Health Officer of Porvorim Primary Health Centre (PHC), has urged Porvorim residents to take precautions to prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases. Speaking at a workshop for builders, contractors, housing societies, and government staff, Dr. Talwar emphasised the importance of keeping surroundings clean to prevent diseases like malaria, dengue, chikungunya, and Japanese encephalitis etc. which are vector-borne diseases which are transmitted by vector mosquitoes from an infected person to other persons in the community.

He advised preventing water stagnation in items like coconut shells, tyres, broken bottles, and flower pots to avoid mosquito breeding. Dr. Talwar highlighted the PHC's measures to control vector-borne diseases, including regular screening of labourers, fumigating high-risk areas, conducting awareness drives, and issuing notices to contractors and builders who haven’t provided health cards to their labourers.

PHC Sanitary Inspector Anil Killedar discussed the types of vector-borne diseases, their transmission, and control methods. The event began with a welcome by Dr. Pooja Revankar and concluded with a vote of thanks by extension officer Annapurna Dukle.
