Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday announced to lay the foundation stone for the long-pending 'Ambedkar Bhavan' in Porvorim within the next six months and to complete the project during his tenure.

"For years, people have been demanding an Ambedkar Bhavan. I agree, I had assured to fulfil their demand and for which we were looking for land. Today, we have finally allocated the land, and the foundation stone will be laid within next six months,”Sawant said, further assuring that the project will be completed within the tenure of the current government.

Sawant highlighted that the Bhavan, planned on a 2,140 sq m plot, will provide hostel facilities for students from remote areas of Goa and other states. It will also feature a multipurpose hall and infrastructure for skilling, reskilling, and upskilling programs aimed at empowering youth.

Speaking further, Sawant said that the government has tightened rules under the Goa Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes Category (Regulation of Issuance and Verification of Caste Certificate) Act, 2023 to ensure that the Caste Certificates are not miss-used.

He said that the Act provides for the regulation of issuance and verification of caste certificates for individuals belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes.
