Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar on Wednesday accused the BJP of misusing power to harass people by transferring government employees and issuing stop-work orders to people building houses in the Mormugao constituency.
Addressing a news conference in Vasco, Amonkar alleged that two people associated with BJP, one a head clerk in the electricity department and an inspector in the legal metrology department were personally taking a list of people to be transferred to remote locations after Amonkar had won in Mormugao constituency.
"While other constituencies are peaceful post elections, power is being misused to harass people from Mormugao constituency, especially because the former BJP minister cannot digest his defeat," said Amonkar.
"A clash between two families during Holi was politicised and police filed cases against 60 people, some of whom were not even present at the site. Now, a fresh list of government employees has been provided and these people are likely to be framed by the police again in this incident," said Amonkar.
"As far as Mormugao taluka is concerned, many people have built houses on government land. As of now, around 20-25 people building houses have been issued stop-work notices by the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC).”
Amonkar claimed that when notices are issued, police visit the site followed by MPDA officials and the flying squad.
“The cases are taken up by the MMC chief officer but the complainant is never available and these are false complainants. Some of these complainants have already built their own houses on government land," said Amonkar.
He alleged that the BJP has come with the transfer of government employees residing in the Mormugao constituency.
“As many as 30 have been recently transferred within the power department and 24 of them are from Mormugao. The power department does not even have a minister till date and this revenge politics has already begun," said Amonkar.
"There is a head clerk and an inspector who are telling others that they want to teach the government employees a lesson for not supporting the BJP candidate from Mormugao," said Amonkar.
"I will do all it takes to fight against this harassment of the people. I will even use my party platform to raise my voice and even take this up in the assembly session," said Amonkar.
