Home appliances worth lakhs of rupees were damaged at many homes in Parampai-Marcaim following a surge in power on Thursday morning.
The incident took place at about 9 am, when a surge in power supply damaged home appliances like refrigerators, TVs, washing machines, ACs, fans, mixers and other appliances in a number of homes, causing losses to the tune of lakhs of rupees.
Many people had closed their houses and had gone to work, as a result of which details of their damaged appliances could not be obtained.
Electricity department staff later went to the site and replaced a faulty transformer, restoring power supply in the area.
A villager Prakash Naik said the sudden surge in electricity on Thursday morning had damaged several home appliances.
“The government needs to compensate the affected people for their losses,” demanded Prakash Naik.
Local Panch Vinod Naik said all electrical appliances in his house had been damaged.
“The government needs to conduct an investigation into this incident,” said the panch.
