Goa Police introduced “Project Netra,” a comprehensive surveillance initiative to enhance crime prevention, detection and traffic management across the State.
The project, dubbed as the “third eye” of Goa Police will have over 2,500 CCTV cameras mapped and integrated into the system for continuous monitoring and surveillance.
“The project will enable investigation teams to quickly locate and track relevant CCTV footage, saving time and effort in solving crimes and nabbing the culprits. This initiative will also help increase police operational efficiency, strengthen connection with the people and create awareness…” DGP Alok Kumar told reporters after the launch at police headquarters on Tuesday.
The CCTV network is expected to assist in crime investigation by providing crucial evidence, preventing property damage, improving traffic control and accident prevention.
The department also launched WhatsApp and YouTube channels to circulate authentic information and provide real-time updates on crime detection, traffic alerts and emergencies. The DGP also stated that the WhatsApp platform will also promote awareness about road safety, cyber safety, and drug abuse as well as encourage public participation in community-oriented events.
“For example, we are presently carrying out massive tenant verification. This exercise will be disseminated to stakeholders, hence creating awareness,” he said.
The YouTube channel will showcase educational programmes, crime detection stories and Q&A sessions with respective Superintendents of Police. The platform will feature live in-house telecasts of Goa Police’s programmes and initiatives.
