How would these two former chief ministers, Luizinho Faleiro and Churchill Alemao, from Salcete go about in the coming Lok Sabha polls, is a frequent question asked in Saxtti political circles ahead of the May 7 election.
In the 2019 election, Luizinho Faleiro supported the Congress given his status as the MLA of Navelim constituency. Similarly, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) had extended support to the Congress candidate for the South Goa seat.
Both Luizinho and Churchill had quit the Congress and NCP, respectively, in the run-up to the 2022 Assembly election to embrace the Trinamool Congress party. Interestingly, the duo quit the TMC in 2023 and since then has not joined any other political party.
Churchill, in particular, who was twice elected to the Lok Sabha from South Goa in the past, seemed keeping his cards close to his chest and is awaiting for the Congress party to unveil the party candidate for the South Goa seat.
Luizinho, on the other hand, has repeatedly stated that he is presently preoccupied with writing books and may stay away from the upcoming Lok Sabha poll.
