Protest upheld: Mumbai City FC claims top spot in ISL 2023-24 standings after Jamshedpur FC forfeiture

Panaji: In a recent development in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 season, Mumbai City FC has emerged as the new table topper following a formal protest lodged against Jamshedpur FC. The protest, lodged on March 8th during a match between the two teams in Jamshedpur, highlighted Jamshedpur FC's failure to field a minimum of 7 domestic players on the pitch at all times.

After careful review by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Disciplinary Committee in accordance with the ISL 2023-24 League Rules, Mumbai City FC's protest was upheld. Consequently, the match has been declared a forfeiture for Jamshedpur FC, with the revised scoreline reflecting a 0-3 loss for them.

Following this decision, the league standings have been adjusted to reflect the outcome of the match as per the ruling. Mumbai City FC now leads the table with 41 points, followed closely by Mohun Bagan Super Giants in second place with 39 points. FC Goa secures the third position with 36 points, while Odisha FC stands fourth with 35 points on the ISL table.

This ruling marks a significant shift in the standings, with Mumbai City FC seizing the top position due to the forfeiture decision against Jamshedpur FC. The outcome underscores the importance of adherence to league regulations and fair play in the ISL.
