After the start of the beautification work at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj municipal park in Valpoi town recently, Valpoi Municipal Council has issued notices to remove the chicken retailers and public toilet located next to it.
The facilities have to be shifted to the fish market near it within eight days.
Notably, facilities to house the chicken retailers were built many years ago in the market but it has been unused so far.For several years, the Cchicken retailers have been operating next to the park, causing a spread of filth and constant demands from citizens to shift them and the public toilet to the fish market.
The beautification of the municipal park is necessary as there are no facilities for citizens, especially senior citizens, for recreation in the evening.
The work was launched on Gudi Padwa by Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and Poriem MLA Deviya Rane, but the actual work began two days ago. Currently, cleaning is being carried out by the concerned contractor.
Chief Officer Dashrath Gavas has stated that a government-built market complex is available, where the chicken retailers and public toilet can be shifted.
However, chicken retailers have requested that space be made available for all them at one place to avoid affecting their business.
