Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar has appealed to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai to prioritise the resumption of the Dev Darshan Yatra Scheme and arrange a special train service for Goan devotees to attend the Purna Mahakumbh at Prayagraj.
The Purna Mahakumbh, a once-in-144-years event, is a significant occasion for millions of Hindus worldwide.
Speaking after performing a pooja at the Vidhyadhiraj Mutt in Vasco, Salkar emphasised the religious and cultural importance of the event.
“The Mahakumbh is held every 12 years, but the present Purna Mahakumbh is a historic occasion that occurs once in 144 years due to the alignment of stars and planets. This is a momentous event for all Indians, and Goan devotees must also have the opportunity to participate,” said Salkar.
He highlighted the massive turnout of 1.65 crore pilgrims on the first day of the Mahakumbh and urged the State government to grant this unique opportunity as a New Year’s gift to Goans.
Salkar requested the resumption of the Dev Darshan Yatra Scheme and proposed the arrangement of a direct train service from Goa to Prayagraj, ensuring that devotees could attend the Mahakumbh, which began on January 12 and will continue until February 26.
“The State government has always supported devotees of all religions. In the past, Goans have benefited from pilgrimage schemes to places like Vailankanni, Tirupati, and Ayodhya. The Purna Mahakumbh is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I am confident that the CM and Social Welfare Minister will take the necessary steps to enable Goans to attend this historic event,” said Salkar.
