Public Works Department’s senior officer, Executive Engineer Elvis D’Souza has said the PWD will immediately write to the Goa College of Engineering Farmagudi to conduct a structural stability test on the building housing the Margao Urban Health Centre.
Whereas Health Director Dr Geeta Kakodkar said the question of shifting the services of the centre to the old Hospicio building will be decided only after the stability report is submitted by the engineering college.
Dr Kakodkar told the media that Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has told her to explore various options, including shifting of the health centre. She, however, said a decision will be taken only after the PWD submits the structural stability test report of the building. “The building housing the health centre is safe as per the PWD engineers. Only the building which has crumbled will not be put to use for the next 8-10 days as a precautionary measure,” she said.
Meanwhile, PWD Executive Engineer, Elvis D’Souza said the health services has been told not to occupy the portion of the building whose façade came crashing down in the wee hours of Saturday as a precautionary measure.
He further said the PWD would immediately write to the Goa College of Engineering to conduct a structural stability test of the building that has collapsed at the earliest.
