Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte assured on Friday that better facilities would soon be available at Morjim beach.
He was speaking to the media after inaugurating the three-day Raponkarancho Sea Food Festival at Arambol beach, in the presence of Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar, local panchayat members, and the event’s organising committee.
Khaunte was informed that tourists face several difficulties at Morjim beach due to the lack of parking, changing rooms, and toilets. Responding to these concerns, he stated that the tourism department is committed to improving these facilities soon.
“Parking, changing rooms, toilets, and other necessary facilities will be provided at Morjim beach shortly. Local MLA Jit Arolkar has already discussed this with the local panchayat, and once space is available, the facilities will be put in place,” Khaunte said.
The minister also mentioned that the Tourism Department plans to make the Raponkarancho Sea Food Festival at Arambol beach an annual event and encouraged people to attend in large numbers.
Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar spoke about the cultural significance of the festival, recalling how it was traditionally celebrated by the Ramponkars and locals.
“We felt the festival should be celebrated on a larger scale with the support of the tourism department. After discussing the idea with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the tourism minister, we agreed that such a cultural event would offer a platform for local artistes to showcase their talents,” Arolkar said.
The Raponkarancho Sea Food Festival at Arambol saw a large turnout on Friday, with people from various backgrounds attending. Festivalgoers had the chance to push boats into the sea and participate in other activities.
