The Public Works Department (PWD) has completed patchwork repairs on the main roads of Angod in Mapusa, providing much-needed relief to local residents and motorists.
These roads had deteriorated significantly, causing inconvenience, especially for two-wheeler riders.
Key stretches, including the road leading to Mapusa Church and areas in front of Kalangutkar Nursing Home and Remanso Hospital, were previously riddled with cuts and potholes.
The recent repairs have improved accessibility and safety for both pedestrians and vehicles.
However, interior lanes in Angod remain in poor condition.
PWD sources indicate that these lanes and the main road will get a new coat of hotmix only after the replacement of old water pipelines, a project scheduled to commence post-monsoon.
Assistant Engineer Triptesh Sirsat stated that work to lay the pipelines is expected to begin in the New Year possibly in the first week of January 2025.
Residents have expressed concerns over the delay in addressing the interior lanes but acknowledge the necessity of completing pipeline work first to avoid redundant road excavations.
The PWD assures that comprehensive road repairs will follow the pipeline replacement, aiming to enhance the overall infrastructure in Angod.
In the meantime, locals are advised to exercise caution when navigating the still-dilapidated interior lanes.
The PWD's phased approach seeks to ensure long-term improvements, minimizing future disruptions once both the pipeline replacements and road repairs are fully executed.
