The renowned gastroenterologist Dr D Nageshwar Reddy, chairman and founder of Asian Institute of Gastroenterology and AIG Hospitals (Hyderabad) arrived in Goa on Saturday. He is accompanied by his wife. Dr Joe Luis, director at Fomento Group received Dr Reddy at Cidade de Goa.
Dr Reddy, the past president of World Endoscopy Organization, is a Padma Shri awardee (2002) and Padma Bhushan awardee (2016). He has been recognized for his achievements by several societies, and has received the B C Roy Award from the Indian Medical Council in 1995. In 2020, Dr Reddy received ASGE President’s Award – American Society of Gastroenterology (DDW Crystal Awards) and was also awarded Fellow of American Gastroenterological Association (FAGA) in the same year. He is also awarded Fellow of Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society (JGES) in 2020.
Graduating from Kurnool Medical College obtaining internal medicine, Masters in Madras Medical College and DM in Gastroenterology from PGIMER, Chandigarh, Dr Reddy worked as a Professor of Gastroenterology in Andhra Pradesh Health Sciences before setting up Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, a tertiary care Gastro intestinal Specialties Hospital.
Dr Reddy’s main area of research interest has been in G I Endoscopy particularly in Therapeutic Pancreatic Biliary Endoscopy and Innovations in Transgastric Endoscopic Surgery. He has published over 670 papers in national and international peer review journals and has contributed chapters in 20 international text books of Gastroenterology and has edited eight G I Endoscopy text books.
Dr Reddy is on the editorial board of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Digestive Endoscopy, World Journal of Gastroenterology, World Gastroenterology News, Gastroenterology Today, Recent Patents on Medical Imaging, and Gastro-Hep.com.
