Desecration of a cross at Maina in Curtorim village, the third time in the last one month, triggered protests amongst a group of people as they demanded action in the matter.
The villagers pointed out that the cross, which was built decades ago in the year 1959, was first desecrated on January 16, 2025, followed by the desecration on February 19 and again on February 21.
The villagers have failed to understand why the cross is the target of the vandals and the motive behind the desecration. “We are sad that someone is trying to foment trouble. We have no idea why this is happening and who is doing it. A complaint has been lodged with the police and they have been requested to intensify patrolling in the area,” informed Xavier de Maina.
Informing that the cross was built way back in 1959 in memory of his uncle, Nadia Fernandes they are shocked over the desecration, the persons involved in the crime and the motive. “Today, the miscreants have targeted a small cross, tomorrow they will be emboldened to target a Church. The police should nip such incidents in the bud so that they do not affect bigger structures,” Nadia said while demanding action.
