A bunch of wild river Otters, the squeaky-toy like mammals have been frequently sighted in and along the side-banks of the St Inez nullah often referred to as St Inez Creek, bringing smiles to the faces of the capital’s green activists and nature lovers.

In one sighting captured on camera, at least half a dozen Otters were seen either frolicking in the water or moving along the banks.

“I have seen Otters swimming in the St Inez Creek sometimes,” said Altinho resident Vincent Barracho.

Another Panaji resident said he has seen otters at least twice in the last week.

Spotting Otters is considered good news for the environment.

Their population can indicate how healthy (or not) the environment is. They are said to travel both over land or through rivers and streams, in search of habitats with clean water and healthy fish population. They eat fish, clams, crabs, snakes and birds.
