After the capital city, the malaise of road digging by the authorities has now spread to areas beyond and to its suburbs in Taleigao even as far as the plush Dona Paula area, disrupting traffic flow and annoying citizens.
At some locations along the NIO Circle to Bambolim ring road, authorities dug up trenches along the flanks on Sunday to lay utility cables causing hindrance to local residents living in plush colonies on either side and also guests of several hotels there.
Elsewhere in Taleigao, pits and trenches have been dug at several places including closer to the city at St-Inez and Tonca to facilitate the ongoing completion works of the Smart City's sewerage and other projects.
At Panaji's Church Square, the Smart City contractors have dug a pit blocking the main access road to the Immaculate Conception Church to continue work on the sewerage system.
Earlier on Saturday, roads were excavated at over a dozen locations in the lcity and its periphery including some critical traffic circulation spots, including at the Taj Vivanta junction in St Inez and at least two other four-arm junctions along the MG Road near Govinda building and the Don Bosco-Alfran Plazza junction in the market area.
The road digging has disrupted traffic in the city at a time when footfalls have soared for Christmas shopping.
