Will the road dividers at the Dandeavaddo junction on the NH-66 in Chinchinim help to cap the sound pollution and mitigate the hardships faced by the residents, including the senior citizens?
This question has come to the fore as the PWD, NH-66 has erected dividers at the junction after the rumbler sticks put up at the junction have been posing a nuisance to the senior citizens.
In fact, with no mechanism in place to check the speed limit violations at the junctions, speeding vehicles have been ignoring the speed limit, leaving the residents to knock on the doors of the authorities to complain about noise pollution, especially during the night.
Senior citizens staying close to the traffic junction have contended that the rumbler sticks have only made matters worse for the residents, with no vehicle complying with the speed limits and driving at great speed over the rumbler, causing noise pollution.
Taking cognizance of the complaints lodged by the senior citizens, a team of PWD officials descended at the Dandeavaddo junction last week to explore the possibility of capping the sound pollution nuisance.
After much discussion, it was decided to erect road dividers at the junction to stop vehicles from driving at great speed and overtaking vehicles at the intersection.
“This is just one way we thought will help make the drivers slow down and not drive in the second lane. Let us wait and see whether the mechanism helps reduce the sound pollution,” informed a senior PWD, NH official.
He, however, hastened to add that it is not the job of the PWD, National Highway to enforce the speed limit notified by the authorities.
