Roads submerged, landslides reported across Pernem

PERNEM

Heavy rains in Pernem taluka have caused water from Mopa airport to flood nearby villages and rivers, leading to significant disruption of public life. Landslides have also occurred in some areas.

In Warkhand, Nigle, Nagjar, Kasarwarni, and Chandel, roads are completely submerged. This has disrupted telephone and internet services, and fallen trees have knocked out electricity poles, causing power outages.

Many roads, including village routes, have been severely damaged and are submerged, making it difficult for vehicles to navigate.

At Mopa International Airport, staff were observed clearing rainwater from the premises as a large volume of water flowed down from Malrana hill, near the airport.

To aid farmers in Pernem taluka, the government has constructed Tillari canals. Due to continuous rain, these canals have overflowed, with water entering fields and gardens in some areas.

River Kalne, which flows from Sindhudurg in Maharashtra into Pernem taluka, has also flooded, submerging main roads in Chandel, Hasapur, Kasarawarna, and Kalne areas.
