Tightening the norms in view of the Omicron scare and as per government of India’s new protocol, international passengers coming from high risk nations will have to undergo compulsory RT-PCR test at the Dabolim airport.
Disclosing this on Sunday, Goa Airport Director Gagan Malik also said that 2 per cent of those arriving from not countries that were not in the risk zone will be randomly tested.
Malik said, as of now, there have been no Covid positive cases detected at the Goa airport from any of the passengers that have arrived.
"As per the new SOPs, the passengers coming from "at risk" countries will have to undergo mandatory test on arrival. In case the tests turn negative, passengers will be permitted to leave the airport but will have to undergo home quarantine and get themselves tested after 8 days”, he said.
Malik also said, “in case a passenger tests positive, the government will make provision to quarantine the passenger at a designated facility and later yet another sample of the passenger will be sent for genome sequencing to identify the variant of the virus".
Further disclosing the measures that were put in place, he said, “in case of "no risk" countries, 2 per cent of the total passengers will be subject to random testing and their samples will also be taken for RT-PCR”.
Malik also said in the event any of the tests came out positive, then the earlier protocol of three rows behind and three rows ahead will be used for contact tracing.
