Mallikarjun Ghivari (45) has been remanded to five days in police custody, following his arrest for allegedly stabbing and killing his elder brother, Shrikant Ghivari (50), over a dispute at GRB Colony, Sada on the eve of Holi.
According to sources in Mormugao police, the post-mortem report revealed that Shrikant Ghivari succumbed to a puncture in the heart caused by the stabbing. The body was later handed over to the family for the final religious rites.
The murder, which took place around 10.30 pm on Wednesday, was triggered when Mallikarjun, a security guard, took his elder brother Shrikant’s bike without permission. Upon his return, Shrikant, who worked as a lifeguard, confronted him, leading to a heated argument.
In a fit of rage, Mallikarjun attacked his elder brother with a knife, stabbing him in the chest, abdomen, and hands. A grievously injured Shrikant succumbed to his injuries.
