The serene grounds of Horta De Maria at the Pilar Pilgrim Centre came alive with the festive spirit of Christmas and the essence of unity as the annual event ‘Sadbhav Christmas 2024’ unfolded.
A celebration bringing together members from various faith communities, the programme exemplified the true spirit of Christmas—love, peace, and brotherhood.
The event was graced by a distinguished line-up of dignitaries. Ramesh Verma, IAS, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Goa, was the Chief Guest, while Prof. Gervasio Mendes, Additional Director of Higher Education and Nodal Officer (SVEEP) for North Goa, was the Guest of Honour. Also present were Fr Frederick Rodrigues, Principal of Fr Agnel College, Pilar and Fr Elvis Fernandes, SFX, Convenor of Sadbhav Christmas 2024.
The programme began with a classical devotional dance performance by Bhagyashree Premnath Chari. Michelle extended warm greetings to all present and setting the stage for the vibrant celebration ahead.
The air was soon filled with melodies as Seby Fernandes and his troupe performed a Hindi carol ‘Jai Jai Yesu Prabhu ki’ and a Konkani carol ‘Mari Matek Ballok Zala’ captivating the audience with their harmonious rendition of the timeless Christmas carol.
Fr Hilario Fernandes, SFX, director of Subham Jinn Ashram, Agassaim, delivered the Christmas message. Speaking eloquently about the true meaning of Christmas, he emphasised themes of hope, compassion, and universal call to foster love and understanding.
Madhav D Bhide offered a reflection on the theme of Sadbhav Christmas, delving into the importance of fostering harmony and mutual respect in a diverse society. His words resonated deeply with the audience, inspiring them to carry forward the message of unity in their daily lives.
Fabiola Lopes E Fernandes and her troupe took to the stage for the next set of carols.
Prof. Gervasio Mendes then addressed the gathering, speaking about the message of love and brotherhood. He highlighted the importance of events like Sadbhav Christmas in strengthening the bonds between different communities and promoting a spirit of inclusiveness.
In his address, the chief guest shared his thoughts on the significance of Sadbhav Christmas and lauded the organisers for fostering a spirit of togetherness, underscoring the need to celebrate diversity as a strength of the nation.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Fr Elvis Fernandes. Elaine Coelho, the compere of the event, skilfully guided the proceedings, ensuring a seamless flow of the programme.
Sadbhav Christmas 2024 was a testament to the power of unity and the enduring message of Christmas—to love and cherish one another, irrespective of differences.
