Goa Forest Development Corporation on Friday introduced safari vehicles at the Netravali Wild Life Sanctuary at Netravali-Sanguem, besides introducing cottages at Mainapi and Savari waterfalls in the village.

As of now, two vehicles will be deployed for the safaris and the same will be increased shortly after seeing the needs of the visitors visiting the Mainapi and Savari waterfalls.

The vehicles were inaugurated by GFDC Chairperson Deviya Rane in the presence of Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Desai, ex-MLA Sanguem Vassudev Meng Gaonkar, Zilla Panchayat member Suresh Kepekar, forest officials and others.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Rane informed that the introduction of the safari vehicles and cottage faculties, locals from the village would be able to get employment avenues as is otherwise seen at other waterfalls in the State.

While Dudhsagar waterfall is known all over the world, efforts will be put to promote the Savari and Mainapi water falls so that these waterfalls attract a large number of tourists leading to widening of employment avenues to the locals.

In another significant development, a Medicinal Herbal Garden was inaugurated at the Botanical Garden in Salaulim. This carefully curated garden features a wide variety of medicinal and aromatic plants, serving both educational and conservation purposes. The garden aims to educate visitors about the importance of herbal medicine in health and wellness while also propagating rare and endangered herbal species to ensure their availability for future generations.

Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Desai highlighted the issues faced by the locals residing within the precincts of the wildlife sanctuary, as the forest department officials at times oppose the basic facilities needed for the day-to-day living of the locals.

Speaking further, Rane said that she understands the difficulties envisaged by the people after the declaration of the wild life sanctuaries but efforts should be put in by the locals to reap the best from the available resources.
