Sancoale Panchayat on Monday rejected the draft ODP 2030 and demanded that Mormugao Planning And Development Authority (MPDA) does not allow the conversion of large tracts of land in Sancoale.
Addressing a news conference, Sancoale Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar and other panch members said shareholders of Sancoale Comunidade had approached the panchayat for help to fight against the conversion of land and change of zones being carried out at Sancoale and subsequent sale of land to builders and developers.
Borkar said the Panchayat had taken a resolution to oppose the conversion of large tracts of land in Sancoale and would write to authorities to stop such land conversions.
"As per the information given to us, some orchard, industrial, barren and agricultural land is being converted and attempts are made to sell it to builders causing worries to residents,” said Borkar.
“As it is, we are facing issues of garbage collection, water supply and power in places like MES College area, where large housing colonies have come up. With more constructions, we are worried about the fate of people already struggling for basic amenities.”
“All legislators of Mormugao taluka, ministers Mauvin Godinho and Milind Naik, MLAs Carlos Almeida and Alina Saldanha must think about this and take it up with the MPDA where they are also members and oppose the conversion of land," said Borkar.
Borkar said that the Panchayat was already overloaded with mega projects in parts of the Sancoale panchayat jurisdiction.
"An industrial land that was given at cheap price by Sancoale Comunidade is being converted after the company has had a change of ownership and wants to wind up operations in Goa and sell the land available with them.”
“Some builders have purchased the land and are already taking up developments and this will create more pressure for water and power supply and better internal roads.”
“We oppose the draft ODP 2030 and we will also write to all MLAs, ministers to oppose the conversion at the MPDA as well. The government must stop such mass conversions and if required, use the land for government projects to facilitate public before the public gets on the road after already facing a shortage of water, power and other infrastructure," said Borkar.
