SANGUEM
The agitating farmers of Sanguem opposing the proposed IIT project on agricultural land at Cotarli Sanguem are gaining support from individuals and groups all over Goa and the number of supporters is only increasing with each passing day.
As the agitation entered its 43rd day on Tuesday, social activist Shankar Polji from Vasco, Mahesh Naik from Margao, Anthony D'silva from Navelim, John Nazareth and Jayesh Shetgaonkar descended on the sit-in agitation of farmers group at Dando Sanguem and assured their support to the farmers.
Mahesh Naik informed the farmers to carry on the agitation till the end and the government decides to shift the project elsewhere.
"The present government understands the agitation language better, and only when the people agitate, the government comes to its senses and gets the projects either shifted to an alternate place or scraps the projects," informed Naik, citing various examples of agitations led by citizens in recent times where people have emerged victorious.
Shankar Polji while expressing unhappiness over the attitude of the government sought to know the need of getting the project to Sanguem despite opposition from the farmers.
"The present government only wants concrete structures all over the place, including the agricultural and forest lands. Paving the way for the IIT project which could easily be accommodated elsewhere on the agricultural lands at Sanguem makes no sense," claimed Polji while assuring his support to the farmers till the time the government gets the project shunted out of Sanguem.
Anthony Dsilva and John Nazareth also expressed their views at the agitation venue.
