Sanguem MLA, Councillor spar   at SMC meet over house tax

The ordinary meeting of the Sanguem Municipal Council held yesterday at the council office saw some tense moments after Councillor Meshu D'Costa and Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldessai ended up in an verbal spat over the issue of house tax.

Dcosta had raised the issue of hefty increase in house tax and had proposed reduction of house tax considering the 

Difficulties faced by the people particularly by senior citizens who do not have any source of income but need to pay hefty house tax which was increased by the last council manifold depending on the area occupied by individual houses.

The issue however remained unreolved after Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldesai intervened in the discussion, which was not acceptable to Dcosta and the two confronted each other.

At the meeting, the council however came to a logical end of renovation of Childrens Park opposite Our Lady of Miracles Church Sanguem.

The issue of renovation of Childrens Park has been haunting the council since last over two years as there were diverse views over the issue.

As the matter came up for discussion and with some councillors opposing the renovation of Children Park, the council decided to go for voting by show of hands at which six voted in favour while four councillors voted against. Those voted against the renovation of Childrens Park opined that the area instead of Childrens Park could have been used for parking of vehicles which otherwise block the internal roads in the town area. 

At the meeting a committee was also formed to look into the issue of Hindu Crematorium.
