SANGUEM
After recently being ranked as the fifth best-performing police station in the country, the Sanguem police station is set to get a new building and efforts are underway to find space to temporarily house the police station.
PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar, former Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldessai and other officials inspected the unoccupied quarters at the Shri Chandreshwar Battalion Camp of Goa Reserve Police Force at Kharkhatiaghati-Sanguem.
PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar directed the PWD officials to renovate two quarters on a priority basis so that the Sanguem PS, which is presently in an old Portuguese house, can be shifted there temporarily.
According to sources, police officials requested nine quarters as the two quarters would be considered insufficient for the police force.
Pauskar said two quarters would be renovated for now and asked the PWD officials to consider renovating other quarters in the future.
Sources said the Shri Chandreshwar Battalion Camp of GRPF is housed in the quarters which was initially built as residential for the Sanguem police.
However, there was no interest in the quarters and virtually all 49 quarters became dilapidated. A few years ago, 22 quarters were renovated for the GRPF. The other 27 quarters are unoccupied and in a dilapidated condition.
Others accompanying Pauskar included SP Dharmesh Angle, DySP Kiran Podwal, Sanguem PI Sachin Panelkar and ZP member Suresh Kepekar.
