Art and Culture Minister Govind Gawde has on Monday said that the Ravindra Bhavan at Sanquelim will play host to the state’s full-fledged and one-of-its-kind digital library.
He also called upon the people to avail the library facilities made available by both government and non-government NGOs to make the library movement vibrant.
The Art and Culture Minister along with Margao MLA Digambar Kamat on Monday participated in the national Librarian’s Day programme at the Dr Francisco Luis Gomes District Library at Navelim. The National Librarian’s Day is observed every year on August 12 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Padmashri Dr S R Ranganathan, who is also known as the Father of Library Science in India.
In his address, the Minister said the library movement can be taken to the remote corners of the state through the village panchayats as well as the NGOs.
“When new panchayat ghars are being built in the villages, the Panchayats can allot space for a village library in the premises. In my constituency, barring one, almost all the village panchayats have premises for the libraries”, he said, adding that the Librarians play a big role in the spread of the library movement.
