Scam in police station; Delhi-registered luxury car seized by PSI goes missing

A luxury car registered in Delhi was driven to Goa and ended up in a scrapyard situated within the jurisdiction of the Colvale police station.

During a routine patrolling, suspicion surrounding the car caught the attention of a police team. On inquiry with the scrapyard owner, it was discovered that he had no valid documents. Subsequently, a police sub-inspector confiscated the vehicle and had it towed to the police station for further investigation.

What transpired afterward was quite astonishing.

However, before delving into that, let us provide you with some more background information on the car.

Earlier this year, a scrapyard owner ‘purchased’ a Ford Endeavour with the registration number DL3C AY 6511.

Despite nearing the end of its validity, the car in remarkably good condition caught the interest of the PSI who questioned the owner on the spot.

Once the officer confirmed that there were no accompanying documents, he seized the vehicle and arranged for its transportation to the police station. This sequence of events took place in April 2023 after which the car joined other abandoned vehicles within the police station’s jurisdiction.

Exactly two days after the vehicle’s registration expired on June 19, 2023, this car, painted in a B-Steel colour went missing from the police station.

The theory of its “sudden disappearance” is quite perplexing.

Sources told The Goan that an entry in the station diary revealed that the car had gone missing from the very premises of the police station.

“In April 2023, the car was brought to the police station for inquiry. After around two months, it mysteriously disappeared. The cops officially recorded this in the station diary on June 21, 2023,” the source disclosed.

As of now, no First Information Report has been filed raising questions about whether the car genuinely vanished from the guarded premises or if it was illegally sold, considering its lack of a registered owner. The original owner, Praveen Kumari, resides in New Delhi.

Sources further confirmed that when the car was initially brought to the police station, the concerned staff neglected to officially document its presence while the subsequent missing status was promptly recorded in the station diary.

“No investigation has been conducted so far. If the car has indeed been illegally sold, there is a possibility that such practices might be occurring in other police stations as well,” the source said.
