The intensive screening drive launched by the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) has thus far detected 58 confirmed cases of breast cancer and another 2,294 ‘suspect cases’ from among the nearly 1.12 lakh women screened.

Posting this data on his social media handles, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane urged women to visit the nearest health centre to get screened with the iBE device, which is painless and radiation-free, and its report is instant.

Rane also said that breast cancer survivors were honoured at the Vijay Utsav event held at Raj Bhavan’s Darbar Hall on Saturday.

“These women are not just survivors; they are warriors, representing the power of hope and courage. Their stories remind us that early detection saves lives and every woman’s health matters,” Rane said.

“I urge every woman to take that brave step to come forward for a check-up at your nearest PHC or CHC,” Rane added.

Goa Medical College and Hospital Dean, Dr Shivanand Bandekar, DHS chief, Dr Vandana Dhume, and DHS Deputy Directors Dr Anupama and Dr Rupa Naik were among other dignitaries present.
