While the Central government’s approval to transfer Rivona land for the Indian Institute of Technology’s (IIT) permanent campus is awaited, Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai said they are awaiting a ‘written approval’ from the site selection panel that visited Goa to finalize the land.
The minister however asserted that the proposed site is almost finalized for setting up the institution.
“The committee members visited and reviewed the progress...They found the Rivona land is very much feasible for this project. They will submit to us a written approval. It is expected (to come soon) but when we discussed, the members called it the ‘best place’ for IIT,” Dessai, also Sanguem MLA, told reporters on the sidelines of a meeting on the upcoming International Purple Fest.
On Tuesday, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant claimed Goa government is awaiting a nod from the Union Ministry of Education Sawant adding that the IIT selection committee has already inspected the site proposed by State government at Rivona.
“The proposal is before the highest level at the Central Ministry. Once we get their approval, we can say that the site is finalized,” he said.
