PANAJI
Ex-banker turned scuba-diver who works with marine scientists on various projects, and trustee of the NGO, ‘Coastal Impact’, Charloo, gave a talk to the students of Dona Leonor Memorial High School on marine life, its impact on the health of the oceans and what happens to them when we misuse or discard plastic waste.
The slide show was colourful and the talk informative. The students’ questions were answered by the team present, comprising a marine-biologist, an expert photographer, a professional scuba-diver and Charloo himself. The slides covered many areas of the world, but the talk was primarily focused on Goa and its geography.
Present for the talk were Rajeev Goel, Executive Director, Corporate Social Responsibility and Public Relations and Corporate Communications, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd, and Mayank Mittal, Area Sales Manager, Goa Sales Area.
All were enthralled by the information given about whales, sharks, corals, sea-horses, and many other marine animals, their impact on our lives and our impact on theirs. The students were made aware of how many have become extinct, how the ocean generates rain and oxygen, as well as about the overuse of disposable items. The students were made aware of their responsibility in generating and disposal of garbage and what is expected of them to keep their planet and its inhabitants safe.
