Shortage hits capital after CCP sealed meat market

PANAJI

The capital city has been hit by an acute shortage or unavailability of fresh meat (beef and mutton) over the last six days ever since the nearly dozen stalls in the Panaji market building were sealed by the Corporation of the City of Panaji.

Consumers of mutton and beef have been left with very few options to buy their supplies from.

The stall located near the old Patto bridge is now the only shop where consumers can buy their fresh meat (mutton and beef) supplies from in the capital city.

The few cold storages attached to malls in and around the capital city are also an option and are unable to cope, a senior citizen complained.

The dozen or so meat stalls which were operating from the ground floor of the old Panaji market building were sealed by officials of the CCP about a week ago and no alternate location was earmarked to the traders.

The dilapidated building adjacent to the Panaji fish market was categorised as “unsafe” and CCP plans to demolish it before commencing construction of the third phase of the new municipal market.
