MARGAO
Around 18 years after he was shunted out of office on August 22, 2006, senior grade administrative officer Melvyn Vaz is back as the Chief Officer of the Margao Municipal Council.

Friday saw the government effecting transfers of senior grade officers, wherein Melvyn Vaz has been given charge as Chief Officer, Margao Municipal Council.

The senior administrative officer had presided over the Margao Municipal Council administration as the Chief Officer for a year from August 9, 2005 to August 22, 2006. His innings at the helm of the Margao Municipal administration was cut short after a group of councillors had laid seize at his chamber. In fact, Melvyn had to run out of the Municipal building to his waiting car to escape the wrath of a group of councillors.

Melvyn will now succeed Ajit Panchwadkar as the MMC Chief Officer, who was holding additional charge of Margao in addition to his charge as Director, Social Welfare.

What has effected a change in the administrative guard in the Margao civic body was the surprise transfer of Gaurish Sankhwalkar when the monsoon session of the Goa Legislative Assembly was underway. While Sankhwalkar was transferred and posted as the Chief Executive Officer of South Goa Zilla Panchayat, Director, Social Welfare Ajit Panchwadkar was given the additional charge of Margao Municipal Council.
