The Siolim Free Legal Aid Cell conducted a programme on the theme ‘Simplifying the Legal System’ at the Marna Panchayat Hall on March 8.
The objective was to educate the public on their fundamental rights and simplify complex legal concepts.
Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo was the chief guest, while Siolim Panch Amit Morajkar was the guest of honour.
The programme began with a welcome by Jane De Souza, the Cell Incharge. The keynote speaker for the evening was Adv. Eeshan Usapkar, a lawyer, trainer, and multiple award winner.
He began by emphasising on the Constitution of India as the foundation of democracy, that balances freedoms with necessary restrictions. He highlighted the concept of equal laws for equal people and unequal laws for unequal people and provided insights into the New Criminal Laws and their effectiveness.
Given the rise in cybercrime, Adv. Usapkar stressed the importance of updating passwords regularly and shared the Cyber Crime Helpline Number. He also elaborated on Goa’s Uniform Civil Code particularly the Communion of Assets, surprising many in the audience with its unique provisions.
Additionally, he discussed consumer rights, guiding attendees on filing complaints through E-Dakhil, the online consumer complaint portal.
The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, where the speaker addressed audience queries.
