Six police inspectors promoted as DySPs

MARGAO

The Goa Public Service Commission has recommended the promotion of six police inspectors to the position of Deputy Superintendent of Police, a move that is expected to pave the way for the filling of vacant posts of DySPs and Sub-divisional Police Officers.

At its Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meeting held on Tuesday, the GPSC has recommended the promotion of six police inspectors to the position of DySP, including Prabodh Shirwaikar, Harishchandra Madkaikar, Santosh Desai, Uday Parab, Sandesh Chodankar and Shaikh Salim.

Police inspectors with five years of regular service are eligible to be promoted to the position of DySPs. The commission also lifted the probation period of five deputy directors of education in addition to promoting two officers in the department of planning and statistics.

Sources in the Goa police informed that the recommendation for the promotion of the PIs to the post of DySPs by the GPSC will set in motion the process to fill up the post of DySPs, which were left vacant after the promotion of DySPs to the post of Superintendent of Police.

Take the case of Margao Sub-divisional Police Officer. The post has been lying vacant for over two months now since the time then DySP Serafino Dias was promoted to the post of Superintendent of Police. The Margao SDPO post is now looked after by Quepem SDPO, DySP Kiran Podwal.

The Margao SDPO vacant post had come into sharp focus when the commercial capital was rocked by the cold-blooded murder of young city-jeweler Swapnil Walke.

Similarly, the post of Konkan Railway police station DySP has been lying vacant since the time then DySP Sammy Tavares was promoted as Superintendent of Police.

Police sources hope that the government would now act quickly on the recommendations made by the GSPC and fill up the vacant posts.
