The Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) has announced relocating ferry operations on the Ribandar-Chorao route to the secondary Ribandar ramp from January 24 to February 15 given the widening works undertaken for Ro-Ro ferry services.
The IPSCDL in collaboration with the Captain of Ports (COP) and the River Navigation Department (RND) is undertaking the “Widening of Ribandar Ferry Ramp” project. The officials alerted the general public of the temporary shift to avoid inconveniences and simultaneously expedite work.
“This project initiative is designed to introduce advanced Ro-Ro ferry services on the Ribandar-Chorao route, replacing older ferry boats with modern, technologically advanced vessels. The upgraded services aim to enhance commuter convenience and boost waterway transportation,” reads a statement issued by the agency on Thursday.
To accommodate the new Ro-Ro ferries, the existing Ribandar first ferry ramp requires an expansion from its current nine meters to a total width of 26 meters. This extension involves an additional 17 meters, enabling the efficient operation of the new ferries.
“Work on the ramp has commenced and for timely completion and to maintain the highest quality standards, all ferry operations will be temporarily shifted to the secondary Ribandar ramp. Operating ferries in close proximity to the construction site could compromise safety, impede construction progress and affect the quality of the finished ramp. Commuters are kindly requested to cooperate during this period to facilitate seamless ferry services and timely completion of the project,” it said.
